Windows Installer will not run.  There appears not to be
an uninstall for the program and since it will not run it
can not be reinstalled either.
Here is the error I get whin I try to run it.

Some of my folder icons have turned purple!
The Control Panel folder and some document icons are affected.
I thought it was the Icon Cache that had been corrupted - so I deleted
c:\windows\shellIconCache as per knowledgebase article - emptied recycle bin

When I restored win 98 I did not notice that the date was
set at 2012. Now when I use scanreg/restore the same cabs
dated 2012 keep reappearing. Is it possible to remove these
so that I can use later registry settings? Is it also

System running Win 98SE with Norton AV. AVdefs and
Windows update all current. System scan is clean. No
recent changes to set-up. On shutdown, Windows
automatically restarts. Any suggestions?

My monitor is dark even after setting the brightness and
contrast to the maximum. Is there any other way to
increase the brighness. Or is something wrong with my
monitor. It is a HP Pavilion monitor.

I have a dos program that won't run on my computer.  My
operating system is 98 SE.  I believe that I have a memory
problem.  When looking at the memory tab under properties
associated with the application, it states that The

Recently on a P4 1.8GHz, 40Gig system with 512 of Ram, I
loaded a "sticky notes" program.  This caused the system
to stop booting.  I entered safe mode, deleted the program
and rebooted.  Everything seemed to run as before, except

I recently had to replace a hard disk and reinstall
windows 98 followed by all the updates...
Part way through an update my computer 'hung' and had to
be switched off

I can make the shortcuts of the ctrl-alt-(letter) variety and they
will work fine until I reboot.  They are not being "remembered"
apparently.  If I go to the properties of each, it will show the
shortcut there but it will not work.

Okay, another error. My C: drive is formatted with nothing
in it. When I tried to reinstall win98, a pop up window
came up with this:
         You may need to remark (REM) some device drivers

My 98se machine has been getting lots of fatal exceptions lately and now can
hardly boot.  Is the best way to troubleshoot this to boot in safe mode by
taping F8 and then do start-run-msconfig and uncheck stuff in the Startup
tab until I find the culprit?

I just received a letter from a friend stating that the
application jdbgm in windows is actually a virus. Could
someone please shed a little light on this subject and put
the paranoia to rest.
