Win98 Will not start even in Safe Mode?18 Mar 2004 00:18 GMT2
I get an illegal opperation warning freo Msgrv32. I can
close the warning and the Safe Mode is in all four
corners but nothing more, just a blue screen.

Whenever I connect to the Internet and click on Outlook
Express or on Internet Explorer my monitor goes black and
I have to restart monitor. I checked and my monitor passed

In my config.sys, it says I have an error or corrupted
file c:\Windows\DBL.sys or C:\DBL.sys I do not remember
how it is written as Device=. What does this file do and

How do you uninstall and then reinstall Windows 98SE? I
have the original Windows 98SE CD and the Key code. Also
if I try to install Windows without uninstalling first, at
the end of the install I get a message "NO CLASS KEY"

Lately, I have trouble opening pages. They are either slow
or they take too long to open and I have to try to open
them again. I hear a grinding on the c drive and specially

I was scandisking my windows 98 and an error occured. The
error was scanskw caused a general prtection fault in
module krnl 386.exe at 0001:00001c86. How can I fix this?

My windows  98 was operating normal when I shut it down
yesterday. Today when I start up it seems to go through a
normal boot routine but then the desktop is just a blue
screen with no taskbar or icons, just a blank screen. I

I dropped Win2000 on a laptop. It turns out that I cannot get a video driver
for my card for 2000. So, I was thinking about dropping back down to Win98.
I tried to drop in the 98 CD, but it will not boot from the disk (an of
course I cannot begin the install from within Win2000). ...

I need to know how to set up my computer so I can rename
files and have them change to the file on screen.  Such as
changing a word file to a zip file just by renaming it.

Can anyone offer any advice?
Last night all the icons on my computer changed, some of them are just
black, and those that are left are odd glyphs that are unrecognizeable, but
consistent for file types.  I updated Mcafee, and then ran virus check,

The folder options dialoge box is missing in my Windows 98
(Not SE, only First Ed.) machine. I tried restarting the
system again and again. The dialoge box, usually available
from the "view" Drop down menu is missing. Please suggest

Windows 98 boot process starts, cycles through the
different screens and just stops loading. Tried doing a re-
install of 98 and same thing happens

Installed a 2nd hard drive in a Win98 system.
BIOS detects correctly; Win98 reports the drive in device manager; but the
drive is not shown in My Computer or Explorer (i.e. it is not useable)
Interestingly, if the drives are swapped, both are seen OK !!??

While trying to install some old software written for
Win3.1 under Win98 I got a dshell error that led to BSOD.  
(Have done this on another machine, no problem)
Anybody know what is dshell, how to fix this?
