Cannot reinstall Windows 98 on laptop17 Mar 2004 22:14 GMT4
My Toshiba Tecra 540CDT laptop used to run OK with Windows 95 but,
after wiping the hard disc and installing Windows '98, it refuses to
boot unless I disable the CD drive from Device Manager. The CD-ROM
shows as a removable disc drive in Device Manager but there is no
file0000.chk17 Mar 2004 22:05 GMT2
This file keeps writing onto my hardrive it got to
00017.chk then started file0001a.chk then b etc. how do I
stop it? and what is it?  Thank you.

After installing the Sims computer games, I cannot change
my display resolution.  After reboot, it reverts back to
the same setting.

I have spent this weekend refurbishing a friends 98se box. In her
attempts at getting the box to boot she had reloaded the O/S over itself
 three or four times, resulting in five VMC folders in her windows folder.

Whenever I start my computer I get the following error
message:
RUNDLL Error loading C:\windows\system\bridge.dll System

Anybody got any ideas on this one?
Each time I start Explorer I seem to have about 5-8 "clicks" i.e.
moving between links (even on pages within a given site) before
explorer stops working abnd just says "done" at the bottom of the

We moved and our computer was in storage for six months,
now we have set it up again and our USB conections aren't
working. I have a web cam on one and a digital cam on the
other. I have tryed installing the software for the

Just recently when I open Windows 98, the first window  I
get is Wordpad.  I never got this before and would like to
remove it so that it doesn't appear first thing.  How do  
do this?

Actalert, Bargains, and Optimize have reappeared in my Close Program
dialog box this morning.  And in the Add/Rmove Program list, there is
Active Alert, Bargain Buddies, and Bridge.  Bargain Buddy was already on
the Protected list in my Spywareblaster program.  I attempted to add

I have done everything that MS Article -296551 told me to do to correct this
problem.  It seems as if I have got it even worse now.

I have a drive for writing CD's. I used it many times for
writing music CD's without any problems.
Now, I want to write data files to a CD (Backup purposes).
This does not work.
