About a month ago I noticed that Scandisk on my Win 98 SE System no longer automatically runs on boot-up after a forced/"improper" shutdown. While this seemed like a welcome change at first, it bothers me that this functionality can go away for no apparent reason.

I have just purchased a Maxtor plus 9 80Gb hard drive. My system is 98SE with a Chantech 6BTM board. I have just realised that the board which is 3/4 years old may have lower BIOS limitation settings. I am unable to determine the maximum settings. (The present hard drive is 12.7GB)

I had to reinstall Win98 and previously , my C drive was my primary hard drive, my D drive was my CDROM and my auxiliary hard drive (where I did all my backup) was my E drive.

When running Scandisk, I noticed that first the "system" area of the hard drive is scanned then the "data" area. Where, exactly, is the "system" area on a hard drive located and where, exactly, is the "data" area located?

Although my speaker volume is up high and my play control is at max my speaker volume is very low and it's humming because I've got it so high to get any volume , what obvious thing have I done or am missing?

For no apparent reason my PC (Win 98 OS) will suddenly "click", followed by a black screen and then it starts to re-boot. Usually scandisc kicks in and then it will either start normally, start in Safe Mode, or even get so far then "click", black screen, re-boot again.
