Sometime I get a file with a million characters in the filename and when I try to rename it, the little menu won't pop-up with the choice to rename etc. When this happens I have to play around by clicking on the file until I can rename it. Is there a fix for

Every time I hit the shutdwon windows button we get down to the windows98 shutdown screen and it just freezes. How can I fix it so that windows 98 shuts down?

I see nobody bit on my question about 'last accessed date.' I'll try on something a little stranger. My older W98SE system won't restart in DOS mode (though it will bring up the V86 mode DOS Box just fine)
