After downloading the various up-dates for Windows 98 a
few days ago from the M/S web site, I now get a blue/green
set of rectangles horizontally across the screen about 1
and 1/2 inches below the top fo the screen.  Immediately

When I select a .jpg from my files to use as wallpaper, I
get a message that says I can only use the image if I
enable Active Desktop. I don't want Active Desktop
enabled . . . and I used to be able to load any image

I am receiving this message on a system at start up time. It boots
into Safe Mode fine.
I am unable to find information of the PERF device(Windows Performance
Monitor?) or the subject.

My computer has been working perfectly for several years
