Something new has come up. Computer and modem where on but idle for
quite a while. Computer just at desktop. Clicked for internet and hard drive
started making a clicking sound. Similar to ,but slower than, the sound made
when booting up with one or more keyboard keys depressed ...

database (Access 2000). Its a long story, so don't confuse me... I am
reliably informed that if I  install Internet Explorer  etc, version 5.5 and
up on the system, it will then have all the vbs runtimes it ...

My screen has started to flicker. Is there any correction I can make to
prevent this?

Running 98se on a PC. Some how the taskbar has disappeared. I can run the
mouse slowly to the bottom and below, to each side and to the top and it

I just noticed a box that pops up on the task bar while
windows is loading.  It has the dos icon and says 'matcli'.
It only appears for a few sceconds then it's gone.

I recently made a major screw-up and deleted about 300
files that I didn't want to.  I wasn't worried as I knew I
could run system restore.  I ran it twice and the files
never came back!  Is there any way to recover these

Every time I open Windows Explorer [the file viewing program],
Internet Explorer automatically opens its window [actually, it opens
multiple windows, since pop-up windows also open]. Since I don't use
Internet Explorer [I use Mozilla] it's anoying to always have to close
