When I shut down the computer hangs at the "windows is shutting down" page. So I went through the trouble-shooting steps and when I got to the one that told me to go to Device Manager and disable anything under "Network adapters" it shut down fine. There is only one thing listed ...

Hi - I use msconfig to selectively start certain programs
located in the start tab. Over the years, a lot of
programs that have been removed are still listed there and
add to the confusion of what's valid and what's not. I

It does this when using at any time and when using

Nothing on ms KB seems to help.

I had someone set up my computer and they placed some of the programs
in the wrong files.  So I moved them using File Manager which
apparently was the wrong thing to do since File Manager does not act
properly now.
