when starting windows 98 second edition  lately i get a
window stating    building drive map, after about a minute
it finishes. It does this everytime when starting up, i
can hit cancel and move on, i don't notice any problems. I

I DON'T know what happened... but as of 2 days ago... I
cannot log on to any secure site. Not Hotmail, Yahoo
email... nothing. I have run 2 diff virus scans, deleted

Hi I'm hoping someone can help me.  I discovered last week that my
computer was infected with lots of nasty spyware. So this morning I
ran the three programs I was told to use to clean that mess up with
(Ad-aware, Spybot, and SpySweeper) .  All the spyware seems to be gone

I have an older 98 SE PC.  I did an FDISK..  deleted the partition, tried to re-install the OS again and it keeps getting to the verifying DMI pool data screen and then it freezes up.
Any Suggestions?

Have a 98SE that gets these errors after logging in:
WscGetProviderPath failed returning WSAEPROVIDERFAILEDUNIT
This comes up twice followed by Illegal operation window
for Rundll32, followed by illegal operation for Explorer.

Just picked up a Gateway 2000 tower pc for my daughter at a tag sale.
It has Windows NT installed, I want to format & upgrade it to 98SE, but
can't figure out how to bypass the logon password.
Someone suggested I remove the battery & give it time to forget, but I'm not
