AGAIN HELLO, I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS BEAST OF MINE FOR
DAYS NOW. I HAVE RECEIVED SOME GREAT SUGGESTIONS AND HAVE
TRYED ALL OF THEM. THEY DIDN'T FIX MY PROBLEM, BUT I
BELIEVE I HAVE FOUND THE MAIN ONE BY DOING WHAT WAS

I have installed the Microsoft Windows Security Update
CD.  The program is not able to run due a missing dll
file: VETCONF.DLL

I have downloaded a few items, one being a Free Defrag,
as  my Defrag for my Win98 never worked properly.
But in the past week or so I have not been able to open up
anything I download...it keeps saying for each one that

I ge a small box in the center of the desktop on startup
which ststes, "a valid dll flie was not found".
I cancel it and go on and the computer seems to run fine.
What is the warning screen all about?

i have a 98 machine here that tells me it doesn't have
enough free physical memory to do either scandisk or
defrag.  
it has 64mb ram installed.

The Advanced search MSKB page offers no active dropdown box contents for me
(as of now); all four are empty. One can type the desired search for stuff,
but the page doesn't work without setting the parameters, which are
completely absent. What th'?

For some reason the disk defragmenting program on my
computer no longer works correctly.  When it gets to
reading drive info. it only makes it to 10% and then I get
a message that says drive contents changed and the process

when I access windows help I can access troubleshooters
until I click on the trouble and then next. All I get
after that is a blank right pane. what is the cause of

I have been having problems with IE hotmail.  I can access
my account but its missing boxes.  I can read my mail but

I have been trying to look on the website for about 2
hours now and I have found NOTHING to help me!!  I have a
customized page for my contacts in Microsoft Outlook.  For
some reason though, my pages have suddenly all disappeared

I find this line in the BLA log list of delays,

I use dial-up and have no networks of any kind. Each time I open
Network in the Control Panel, a msg jumps up saying "Your network

I located the file "setnote.cpl" in C:\windows\system but
when I go to: Start  -  Settings  -  Control Panel  I get
an error message.  Is the file bad or just not connected?

My PC runs W98SE.
I am working my way through a W98 Hints & Tips book. There's an
article on removal of an animated 'Click here to begin' message that
points to the Start button on booting. I've seen this working on other
