Scandisk works fine..defrag wont work anymore. Says

I run Windows 98 Second Edition.
I was using a computer at the library and I downloaded
four midi files (four songs that I like). I downloaded
them to a 3 1/2 inch floppy. At some point there was a

Hello out there,
I tried to install a program under Win98 SE which is supposed to be
launched automatically at start-up (on an NT class machine it would
probably be called a 'service'). The install process aborts with the

After downloading security update KB823718 my computer
will not go into standby on its own; and when placed there
via the Start Menu it comes out in 45 seconds.

While at Windows Update, I saw that there were 2 driver updates.
I installed them.
One was nvidia....
after installation I was told to reboot to complete install which I did.

I recently purchased a used scanner and it came with 3
installation discs. I installed it and it seemed to load
to my computer hard drive , but when I try to open it from
the desktop icon I get this message --" THE SHELL 32.DLL
