Does anyone know what files determine the key mapping of a keyboard?  I and
some others have a problem with the dual stroke French characters. It does
not matter what keyboard is used, but something seems to alter the key
mapping in the French language.

 1) I see that my control panel is "broken"; clicking on any icon does
nothing. Apps do run from icons.(version 4.10.1998)
2 )  I 'd like to be able to make changes to my network IP settings - is
there any way to do this without the control panel ?

In Win98SE, from My Computer, C: Properties, Disk Cleanup button, I get
the following error:
Windows cannot locate the Disk Cleanup program.  The program file may be
corrupt or may have been deleted from your computer.  To reinstall Disk

printer does not show up in device manger

Can I replace 2000 with 98 and what is the procedure?

I am trying to help a friend who is running Win98SE on her PC. Whenever she
goes to Control Panel, Display and clicks on the Settings Tab (to change
some settings)the computer shuts down! It shuts down before she has a chance
to make any changes.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to set a system so that temporary
internet files(and any associated unnecessary files) do not build up
when one is online?

I have been trying to get 9x machines to log on and for some reason

Reinstalled win98 2ed over itself to resolved an explorer (desktop) error.
Now when I try to run any MS office application, or when I try to install
new software, I get a box prompting me to insert the MS frontpage 2002 CD.
And I get that box twice.  After dismissing both windows, I ...

When I go to Start then Help I get:
"Cannot find the file 'hh.exe' (or one of its components)
make sure the path and filename are correct and that all
required libraries are available.

Everytime I right click on a file to delete it or move it,
I get a explorer caused an page fault in kernel32.dll.  I
checked microsoft error pages and none listed that pertain
to me.  What can I do?  It's getting on my nerves,

   I recently started hanging at the "Starting Windows 98..." screen. No
error messages, just the black screen with the line just mentioned. I
reverted back (scanreg /restore) to a date I booted properly and did boot
OK. Two day later same thing all over again; three days later, ...

I have a program that was made in 1996 for windows 3.x or
95.  is there a way to use it on windows 98?

keep having problems with shutdown ever since replacing the
harddisk. basically fairly often during the bootup (after
the shutdown) either scandisk will run or scanreg will
mention registry error.
