Up until today, one of my systems had been working fine. I have a feeling
that the harddrive that is the main problem; however, Win98 Gold has
also gotten somewhat hosed.
Specifically, upon bootup, sometimes the drive will be found and will

I know this is not the right place, but where can I go if the 98 Power
Management section is perpetual out of service.
My question is I need to press the buttom for abt 10 sec before the power is
off, where can I adjust it to shut down quicker. I cannot find in the BIO'S

  I have a d-link router configured with a 3 station workgroup. An XP pro
box and a 98SE box are hardwired. A W2K machine is running wireless.
  I am able to connect to the internet successfully and can see / share
files between all 3 machines.

I have a large capacity drive...200gb...that I was wondering if there
was a faster way to perform maintenance other than with the
Maintenance Wizard provided with Windows.  It seems like it takes
forever for the program to run its course !!

Does the newer version of McAfee Firewall work with Windows 98 SE
and/or Windows XP? I tried it with 98 SE a few years ago and lost
the use of my computer until I got in safe mode and got it uninstalled.
Any info appreciated.

I originally had a 4.00gb HD as my main C:\ drive (with call of my
system files on it)....the drive was also partitioned to create 3
drives...Drives C:\, E:\, F:\.  Over time it has out grown the small
size and I decided to install a new drive. I also have a 2ndary drive

Background:
I had McAfee VirusScan-9 installed & was trying to run a normal update. The
update kept failing. Tried to re-install it. But now all my

There is a file (index.dat) in the cookie folder.  I don't recall seeing
 it there before (although it could have been) and if I try to delete
it I get this:

I updated a scanner program/driver and now not only is the scanner is not
being reconized but I can't uninstall and/or install new driver/program.

I view this ng in OE and over 8000 messages are evidently d/loaded each time
I visit. Can I pare this down to a more reasonable number?
