'show all files' is selected in start - settings - folder options - view
and file extensions are shown.

Gary, you have been so helpful I feel guilty about imposing again.
I am still trying to catch up with posts; I am yet again going away
for more xmas breaks. (I just want to sit in front of my computer)
I interupted my machine during boot-up and chose option 6.

I wanted to let you know that I finally was able to get rid of the newer
printer driver HP Deskjet 3820 in my XP version.  I ended up manually
searching for files with the search assistant and deleting the entries that
referred to version 7 as opposed to the older version 5 that ...

Kelly or any other MVP, I need your help to make hidden drivers visible on
default in XP Pro.
in the device manager.  People have responded in the XP general newsgroup
but no MVP's and I thought someone may happen to know in this newsgroup even

If my win98 computer sits idle for a time, multiple (dozens) of instances of
iexplore launch.  This obviously utilizes all of the resources, and the only
way to escape this problem is to hard boot.  I have Adaware and Spybot and
run them often.  Any ideas as to what is happening ...

Spybot has found DyFuCA.Internet Optimizer on my system. After being removed
by Spybot several times, it still comes back. Is there a permanent solution?

With a Windows 98 machine, is there any way to determine what
make/model/version motherboard the PC has?  Not the BIOS version, but the
motherboard itself.  I took the cover off the PC, but couldn't see any
manufacturer information easily.  I tried to watch the BIOS as it booted ...

This may not be the right newsgroup to bring up the problem, but here
goes!  My program will produce satisfactory sound out of radio
sations, videos, etc. but no sound when playing a CD.  On the other
hand, Microsoft Media and other programs on my computer will produce

The HD has no jumper (according to the info, its slave setting) and upon boot
up,its says pri master nil and yet able to load w98se and pc performs well.
In the bios it has the pri ide controller disable. Any explanation pls?

I am finding that I need to reboot more often with AVG Free (Dec 9/04) than
I did with AVG 6/7. It seems that my buffers require purging after 3-4 hours
of googling or site-hopping in order to keep site access~ page u/l~ d/l

I hope someone can help me.  As you can see in my profile I own three
computers.  Each one has a different version of Windows.  I designed a VB6
application with a rich text box control and compiled it using the Package
and Deployment wizard.  This was done on my Windows XP ...

I have been told to open a zip file with winzip.Windows 98se installed, but
I cannot find "winzip"  What to do?

Sometime back, someone posted a link to software that would allow the
Windows 2000 color scheme to be added to the appearance tab/scheme of the
control panel/display of Windows 98.  I recently upgraded to Windows 98 SE
and lost that ability.
