i get the above message when i attempt to update windows 98. 'show all files' is selected in start - settings - folder options - view and file extensions are shown. temp. internet files are deleted.

Gary, you have been so helpful I feel guilty about imposing again. I am still trying to catch up with posts; I am yet again going away for more xmas breaks. (I just want to sit in front of my computer) I interupted my machine during boot-up and chose option 6.

If my win98 computer sits idle for a time, multiple (dozens) of instances of iexplore launch. This obviously utilizes all of the resources, and the only way to escape this problem is to hard boot. I have Adaware and Spybot and run them often. Any ideas as to what is happening ...

With a Windows 98 machine, is there any way to determine what make/model/version motherboard the PC has? Not the BIOS version, but the motherboard itself. I took the cover off the PC, but couldn't see any manufacturer information easily. I tried to watch the BIOS as it booted ...

The HD has no jumper (according to the info, its slave setting) and upon boot up,its says pri master nil and yet able to load w98se and pc performs well. In the bios it has the pri ide controller disable. Any explanation pls?

MVP's et.al.; I am finding that I need to reboot more often with AVG Free (Dec 9/04) than I did with AVG 6/7. It seems that my buffers require purging after 3-4 hours of googling or site-hopping in order to keep site access~ page u/l~ d/l

Sometime back, someone posted a link to software that would allow the Windows 2000 color scheme to be added to the appearance tab/scheme of the control panel/display of Windows 98. I recently upgraded to Windows 98 SE and lost that ability.
