I was wondering if it was a good idea to lock HOST files or does this end up causing more problems than it is worth. Thanks for your opinion. In this case, it is an not only in option in ZoneAlarm Pro. but also an option in Spybot Search and Destroy.

I need to if Windows formats hard-drives during installation, because I have over 4GB of stuff I don't want to lose. If so, should I go ahead and install a second hard-drive to store my stuff if I ever need to reinstall Windows?

I've got a wierd problem where my mouse and keyboard stop working, although Windows continues to operate (as demonstrated by the dial-up connection lights in the Taskbar, and disconnecting the modem from the phone line causes the 'lost connection' message to appear).
