98 se machine, which was upgraded by a computer shop and the hdd was just

Seemingly out of the blue, my computer can no longer play audio. This
includes sound from audio and audio/video files of all types, either from
the internet or from hard drive, and also audio CDs.

Every time I either turn my computer "on" or reboot the system, It pops up a

Lately I notice that when the icons on the desktop refresh my system freezes.

Attempted to run System Config Utility and not responding.  Searched for and
cannot find MSCONFIG.EXE.  Can I recover this from my Win 98 CD?  

I have been running windows 98 on my system for a little over 4 years and the
time taken to start up seems to have gotten painfully slow recently.
I ve tried all the usual gizmos on SystemWorks 2003 and have removed all the
programs I no longer use but start-up is still so slow.

My computer seems to get stuck everytime I try to shut down or restart it.

If I choose to uninstall win98 2nd edition, & reinstall will I lose all other
