When I double click on any folder or my computer on the desktop or
right click start then explore the following error pops up twice.  I
click close twice to get rid of the error message then the folder
opens.  When I open the same folders through explorer this doesn't

S&D, AVG, and Adaware that I run frequently with usually miminal to no

Once upon a time I was told in order to access an XP network printer from
Windows 98 that I had to create a "user" and log in with the same login as
the XP machine had. It didn't work.  I finally got the printer problem

OK here goes: Went on the net to download an updated driver for my
modem, did so and installed it and it worked.
But, the next time I rebooted my computer, the screen came up with the
windows generic video picture, like the one you get when you load

this machine is a mess kept frezzing trying to run surface scan (bad clusters)
I think I was able to to successfully run through scan disc but not sure

I have noticed that in the common file folder I have many directories with
files associated with programs that have been un-installed ages ago.  Is it
safe to remove these folders/files?   Thanks.

When you select Start/Run/msconfig you see a tab for startup items.
In more than one case I have duplicates and want to delete the duplicate.  
For example I see the audio mixer that came with the computer...one box is
checked and another is not.  I want to delete the unchecked one ...
