I have given my old computer to my mother and cleaned off a load of programmes she would never use as the hard drive was full. Now, trying to set up Broadband has caused a load of problems. Windows 98se will not boot up now but says the file "symtdi.vxd" is missing.

Can anyone help? When on my laptop everytime i right click on the desktop my computer reboots. I get a Blue screen with some writing on it before it shut off, but it flashes way to fast to read. It looks like a error report.

I have lost use of my CD rom and my 100mb zip disc. My BIOS sees them and identifies them correctly and when I boot in safe mode, there is no error marking them Any suggestions?

A few months ago, I had a problem on startup of my Win 98 SE machine. Windows told me it had found a problem in the registry, and that it would use an earlier registry backup. Well, that backup turned out to be several years old!

If I have my ADSL modem switched off while Win98se is booting, Windows takes about 3 minutes before it gives up looking for a DHCP server and then assigns an IP address such as 169-254-xxx-xxx. Is there some way to specify a shorter timeout period?
