The most recent Windows 98 Update that appeared seemeingly without
pre-announcement on the WU site - KB908519 - was that a fix for the wmf
security problem that Microsoft said they weren't going to issue a patch
for?

Just last nite the icons that sit down at bottom right of desktop
(next to the volume and the time) on Windows 98 went low resolution.
All the other icons on desktop look the same.  programs operate the
same.

I am resurrecting my laptop with win98se. On booting I get can't find
vredir.vxd or dfs.vxd in registry or system.ini. Then I get a message can't
load DLL msnp32.dll.
It's connects wirelessly to the internet but not the home network.

Quite a few times over the last couple of years, I've asked if anyone
knew why I often got various errors in gdi.exe, which led me to much
head-scratching and regular reinstallation of my video drivers.
Various suggestions were offered, none of which seemed to resolve the issue.

I've some crosslinked files the other day, and after reboot, I could not
even get the system to boot up at all, the machine stalling at the following
error:

Around a week ago, there were some corrupted system files, and I could not
even get into the OS, which is win98SE.  After some researching, I've found
out it's a problem with the corrupted comctl32.dll and I managed to get a
good copy of it back.

Seems the net is always a-buzz regarding the 'deletion' of files/folders;
and just who/whom has the power to re-instate said files if a
hard drive is confiscated and marched into a govt' office.
So, lets talk about it.
