I cleared NVRAM by removing battery and re-installing it. Battery tested
OK. BUT, at boot I got an event log error message. I went to BIOS and
found the following, which I cleared.

Paint. The system is now running like a charm after a 5 minute registry fix.

I've just rather reluctantly installed Quicktime 6.5.2 in place of Media
Player Classic. In the case of two audio file types formerly opened with

I am using WIN XP and it is just a month old,
my laptop config is
1 GB RAM , INTEL dual core --1.67MHz ,100GB hdd ,

When I shut down I get as far as the Win 98 screen with 'Windows is shutting
down' but then it doesn't finish shutting down (however long I leave it). So
I have to switch off & when I start up again has to go thru scandisk etc.

My computer apparently got infected creating innumerable problems. One

Well, this will have taught me *never* to make Opera my default browser.
I had all sorts of problems with it, file associations being one such.
This led me, in a moment of frustrated lunacy, to cut/paste everything
out of C:\Windows\Favourites into a different folder.

When I choose Standby either thru "power Management" or from the Start menu
,The system will go into standby (as it should) but the system won't go thru
an orderly shutdown after that. The screen displays colored garbage and then
hangs.  Any help?

I keep getting a Fatal Exception Error.  It is OE at
0028:(C1528A97,CE86CEC0, and E815F13A).  It seems to happen most often when
using IE6.0 on a W98SE machine.
