I have noticed when Windows XP has trouble reading a CD it seems to suddenly jump the Central Processing Unit cycle to the maximum possible although this does not seem to help. I am puzzled as to why XP Professional does this and I have not noticed this annoying behavior in

I have a (MicroHelp) Unistaller program on my W98se computer. Orginally designed for W95, the program, amongst other things, "packages" a program, and all of its components, on a computer running Uninstaller, to a second computer also running Uninstaller.

One post suggested my optical mouse could be causing this. I believe it is a hacker probe from a MySpace user causing these 20 second interruptions. I have eTrust AV and the Tiny Personal Firewall 2.15. I don't have a router, but maybe I should get one after this.

My system came from a commercial LAN (a network named "Bluegrass" geared toward mechanical contractors), and calls for a password at system startup. I bypass it by pressing Enter, so it's a minor inconvenience, but I would like to remove it altogether.

Sorry to bother you all with this, but I've got a T22 that I want to install Win 98se on. Scandisk comes up with that there might be a problem on C:\. It then says choose fix it to correct the prob. But then it says don't fix the drive if its been formatted with NTFS,
