Had to reinstall OS on old computer, and since then not able to get any sound
out of the beasty. Device mgr reports all is well-installed/good drivers
(updated)/working correctly-but audio output/input are grayed out in
multimedia box so can't select device to use/look at volume ...

Running Windows98 SE. Did a periodic scanreg/fix and it stopped at 5%. What

A clone restore works because you also backup the registry and boot
