I have recently been updating an old win 98 (gateway computer) and I
did a restore using and old packard utility ( long story short the
orginal hard drive died - i took it from another machine that was a
packard bell) it worked but i had other problems so i went back to

I have an older gateway,E-4200 system,
and ever since I installed a Seagate hard drive as a slave, I can not seem
to get to the page where you have the options to boot to safe mode, command
prompt only, start with CD rom support etc.

For some strange reason ZoneAlarm have dropped their Windows 98/ME firewall
product.  As Windows XP has a built in firewall I can't see how they can
make money now but anyway..
Does anyone know of a firewall product which I can download for Windows 98.

Been spending time chasing down bsod's and appropiate hex error msgs.
Have used KB but with no luck relating to 4 of the msgs. I also
know of 3 other 'good' sites, but still cant find ones I need.

I have recently been unable to get any sound from my sound card.  I
currently have a driver conflict in my device manager.  I own a
Soundblaster Audigy card and the conflict is with Creative SB16

Just writing to see if others feel the same way. I am not of the
computer generation so every new computer learning experience is a
challenge. Without books or courses, I somehow manage to enjoy, with

 I am trying to install win98SE on a gateway computer. My problem is,
when I get past the "gateway" screen, the screen goes blank. I can hear the
CD running, but the screen never comes back in. I am at a stand still and
have tried other video cards, different cords, etc...but ...

I am a die hard running Win98SE and on start up windows can not detect a
mouse.  It's been fine apparently until my daughter downloaded some mouse
enhancing program. I've tried to delete that and  I've run the hardware
