Two Operating Systems W98 / Wxp01 Oct 2008 00:17 GMT9
I have W-98 in my secondary PC.  However, W-98 does not support recent jump
(pen) drives, thus I am plannig upgrade to Wxp.  Have boxed Wxp upgrade
version but instructions indicate that the upgrade will "replace" previous
OS.  I have several important W-98 program that will like ...

Guess this newsgroup monitoring is somewhat like Congress.  Asleep at the

WTF - I cant disconnect my modem30 Sep 2008 01:16 GMT3
I just installed a new modem yesterday.  A USR V-Everything.  The
modem works great, but I just right clicked on the dialer button and
left clicked on Disconnect.  It will not disconnect.  I've tried 6
times, and there were no open browsers, or other internet software.
I hate Windows 2000, miss W98 SE.30 Sep 2008 00:23 GMT48
Well, here I am running W2K and boy do I wish I had 98SE back. It is so much
more user friendly and simpler in design. I hate the admin and user accounts
in 2000--it makes everything so much harder to find. But to go back to 98SE
would mean reformatting the hard drive and using my ...

Holy sh.t...... Modem speed thru the roof25 Sep 2008 21:31 GMT1
My modem got killed by lightning (again).
Seems I lose 2 or 3 each year. This is the price one pays for living
in the country.  Anyhow, I got a used US Robotics V-Everything this
time.  I am getting 57,600bps. on dialup, using Win98se.  I have never

According to the guys in the Windows 2000 general newsgroup, my posts are

We have been deserted again23 Sep 2008 21:46 GMT9
Saw an announcement for Adobe flash player 10.X.  Of course it only
supports XP and Vista.  Looks like they are not going to fix the
9.0.124 version which does not work well with Firefox 2.X even though
they claim it does.
CTL3D32.dll Error21 Sep 2008 14:21 GMT3
When several of my programs open, I get an error that says CTL3D32.dll
is not the correct version, this version is for Win/NT systems.  I did
not intentionally change it, so I assume some program did.  Oddly
enough the applications do load and work properly after I click OK.
Will 768MB RAM be OK, even in Safe Mode?20 Sep 2008 20:12 GMT35
I've recently doubled my system RAM to 512MB, with no problems.
There's room on my motherboard (ASUS A7V8X-X) to plug in another
similar 256MB module.  (I don't think I want to add 512MB merely
because it might be useful when/if I get around to dual-booting
Deleting Files causes Freezup20 Sep 2008 15:56 GMT50
A while ago I was trying to network my laptop (Win2K) to my desktop
(W98se).  I never did get it to work and gave up.  I only wanted the
network to copy my camera pictures to the laptop.  I decided it was
easier to copy files using flash memory sticks, than fight with the
