Running IE6 SP1 on Win98 FE connected through 56K dialup modem Recently, periodically the system pauses for 20 seconds to upwards of 1 minute doing nothing! Checking connection details, there is no data coming or going.

I have an old laptop I put win98 on, but I am hoping to upgrade it to win98se to have USB support. But I only have the win98 install cd. Is such a thing possible? Would this happen through windows update? Thanks.

I have a number of 98SE machines on which I have removed this icon from the systray, although I don't recall how I did it. Now I've reinstalled 98SE on a laptop (where the systray is quite crowded), and I want to again remove this icon. I never use Task Scheduler.
