I just reinstalled a fresh version of Win98 onto a Virtual PC 2004 and went
to the Windows Update site, where it said that I had 24 critical updates,

I am getting two copies of each "Breaking News" alert, usually about
ten minutes apart. How can I eliminate the extra alert?

Every time that I attempt to take any step, i.e., open a program, save a
file, the dialog box for connecting to the internet via my dial-up ISP
appears.  I have checked every setting and this persists.

I'm having trouble with setting OE6 as my default mail client.  It is set up
fine in IE6, but not OE6.  Whenever I go to Tools>Options>General Tab and
press "Make Default" it appears to do so, but when I reopen the Tools menu
there is the "Make Default" button again.
