After formatting my hard drive and re-installing Windows
98, I now have no sound at all. I have an audio chip on
the motherboard that was working fine before the re-
install. You would think that with the number of people

Hello. I just installed an internal CD burner and want to
get software but so far the software (Broderbund's
Totalburn and Pinnacle CD/DVD creator) says that 98SE is
needed. I have 98. Can I use this software with 98 or do I

I lost all sound devices on the computer two weeks ago.
I get getting message "no sound card" and once in a while
sound card "in use" by another program.
I am at a lost.

I had a bad sound card but took one from another identical
computer that was working, and swapped it. Now I hear the
Windows string music when I boot up, but I cant hear the
CD play. Windows Media Player pops up. I can hear the CD

I tried opening a JPEG image yesterday, and it
says "Windows cannot find PSP.EXE.  This program is needed
for opening files of type 'JPEG Image'.  Location of

My Atapi cd-rom drive won't recognize my "imitation"
(brand name) cd-rw's. Other computers with windows xp
recognize the imitation cd-rw's. My win98 computer
recognizes my other cd-r's (non-imitation). Any ideas? I

I have a Windows 98 machine that 7 out of 10 times does
not recognize the CD ROM at start up.  The machine hasn't
been moved or anything.  Tech support form the
manufacturer wanted me to re-format the machine.  I refuse

I just did an update as well and like a gazillion others,
now have no sound ... I have done the Systems
Config/Multimedia/Device Manager/File Integrity
Check/Sharing & Violation Check ... and even re-installed

I downloaded and installed DirectX 9b and now some .avi
files that played with the previous version of DirectX
will not play.  Instead I get a Windows Media Player Error
that says 'Class not registered'  What can be done about

and decided to format it and put windows 98 second edition

I have an IBM APTIVA desktop which I purchased from
BestBuy some 4 years ago. It has Windows-98.
Recently, I have been unable to play any sound. When I
click on the sound icon at the bottom right of the screen,
