My jpg. files are gone and in their place is a VBScript script file, whatever that is. I try to open up one of these files and nothing opens. What have I done?

DVD/CDROM was unplugged to add other HDD, when HDD removed and DVD reinstalled, WIN 98 SE doesn't even find that it is connected. Add hardware wizard doesn't find anything either. DVD is Toshiba SD M1202. No other CD ROM access

I just installed Windows Media 9.1. It will not play audio CD's - get G0xC00D1197 Condition ID = 0x00000000, "can't play file." If I point directly to the .cda file on drive E:, it says it can't find it. Ideas please?
