If I specify an IP address in my ethernet protocol properties (Control
Panel -> Networking), Network Neighborhood can't even see the computer
it is on (Network Neighborhood -> Entire Network).  It says the network
is inaccessable.  If I tell it to get an address automatically ...

I have 2 machines (amd p4) with ethernet.
In one machine 2 o/s loaded win98 & xp and in other only xp.
I cannot browse either machine on network or search one from the other.
I have tried giving static ip address / automatic ip.

I have spent hours on this but it just won't work.  When I try to share my 98
files I get message that "cannot view user list try again later" Only two
computers with a D-Link router and a DSL modem.  Network is set for file and
printer sharing, and XP firewall is also set ...

The situation is this: I have a PC with cable modem connected via a
long inverted or crossed over, I don't know how this UTP cable layout
is called, it's when both endings are different and you use them to

Hello....I've daisy chained the two routers...at home. One router gets
a private lan ip from the first router. First router is has a broadband
modem connected so it provides internet access for all computers.

My Win98 is my main machine. I had it set up to be tapped into by my WinME
wireless laptop. Everything was working fine.

Fromerly Windows 98SE os machines are able to login to Windows 2003 Server.
They are unable to login to Windows 2003 Server out of sudden. Why ?

I have a Win98 client that was a user on a NT peer-to-peer network.  The
client is now stand-alone.  The client still requires Admin privelages to
download software.
How can I remove Administration requirement so I can download updates?
