Computer is a small Server on a network of 5
File sharing  enabled

Lately when I go to shut down, the computer freezes at
the window that say's, "Windows is shutting down". I have
to reboot and then shut down again. Is there a fix for
this.

When I boot up, the computer goes through all the checking
of memory, loading of files and doing whatever has to be
done to get up and going. The last message on the screen
is: WINDOWS PROTECTION ERROR - PLEASE SHUT DOWN.  What

I tried starting my computer after an improper shut down.

After just running scan disk I have noticed I seem to have
an awful lot of space being taken up in hidden files.
How do I find out what these hidden files are and whether
I need them or not?

I've been trying to install a cable internet link on my
4-year old Windows 98 machine. I've solved a few of the problems
in weird ways, the worst one being that I copied the file
"inetmib1.dll" from an old Compuserve folder to C:\windows
