How do I discover if there are unwanted programs running
in the background - in a Windows 98 environment? I have
been experiencing poor performance on my home PC, with
strange symptoms like inability to get far into Scan Disc

A client's HP has win98se on it, and it takes forever to
boot. It gets to the Windows 98 screen, the bottom scroll
is moving, but it sits there about a minute before it goes
to the desktop. I've taken the unnessicary items out of the

At ten minute intervals somethings grabbing all the
processor power for several seconds which stops everything
for working.

Have Win 98se, 1.9Ghz P4, Intel motherboard, 512Mb RAM.
Sometimes my system resources get low, sometimes as low as
5% while multitasking. I close all programs so as to
reclaim memory/resources, or so I thought, however

got an email not long ago about having a virus in your
computer if you found a "bear " icon....  well stupid me
was in a hurry... saw the "bear" icon.. got scared .. and
deleted...  now i'm told this is part of the windows
