Is there any advantage or need to update the BIOS on a PC? Presently I am
using a Dell Optiplex Gx240. W98/Se OS.  pentium 4 - 2.0Ghz, 640Mb Ram, 40
Gig HDD. The Bios is A02 . I've been told that the most recent Bios revision
is A05.  Is there a reason to do this revision? If it is ...

When I turn my computer on the Windows 98 screen appears
(with no icons).  The screen then goes into the windows
wall paper with no icons.  If I hit F8 during start up, I
can get into the Safe Mode.  But once agaion, no icons.

A couple of day ago we turned on the trusty Compaq 5441
desktop with Windows 98 and found Windows would not boot
up.  After the Compaq logo screen, it gives about two
seconds of the Windows cloud screen and then goes to DOS

i recently installed win98se. upon startup i receive a
message stating: warning system memory is running very
low. when i checked the properties of the c: drive it says
that i have a 2 gig hard drive with 1 gig available space.

My pc wont finish booting up on its own. It shows a screen
that says a file is missing. the file is

since trying to remove an expired trial of bullguard on my
son's compaq presario 1685(running W98), via the control
panel/add-remove programs, windows will not load, even in
safe mode.  the initial windows screen comes up, then

when free cell (originally downloaded with windows 98)
will not play.   The game does not look the same and will
not properly play.  It then freezes up and an
ctrl/alt/delete is need to get out of game.

I reinstalled my system last week and it hangs up at times, when opening and
closing folders.
I opened system monitor to see what is going on.  Memory seems stable.
Threads are used and then given up as programs are opened and closed.  When

Sometimes, when I want to shut down and reboot when performance of my PC
deteriorates just before a crash, I get the 'This program is not
responding.' message, however, no program name appears in the title bar.
I suspect that this is the program that causes poor performance and
