I am having problems with opening and closing directories in Windows98
Second Edition.  For directories that haven't been open for awhile,
they open very slowly and close very slowly. This is the same for new
directories just created.  However all files and programs open fine

Yesterday I was looking in the documents section of Start
and saw "disabled Programs"(believe it said programs but
was a disabled title).  I clicked on that and saw an icon
for "MS office toolbar shortcut".  I thought, well that

I just installed a new motherboard AMD XP2600+ cpu and 512
Meg RAM. It takes at least 5 minutes or nore to boot up
once it hits the logo screen. The blue bar moves VERY VERY
Slow. Does anyone have an idea how correct this?

I recently deleted some old files but accidentally deleted
a program that I needed. When I went to the recycle bin to
restore it, nothing showed up. I clicked on "empty recycle
bin" and it asked me if I wanted to delete the 5000 or so

giving me a blue screen that says: Can not write to C:

I have Win 98. Recent probs with Defrg - but Safe Mode
fixed that. However - can't optimise with Nortons 2003.
Keeps going round & round. Some BS about programs running

I am unable to defragment my computer.
I am using Windows 98.
Once I start defrag "drive C" I have kept all night long,
even in the morning It was 0%.

Windows 98:  When I try to defragmate.  The first thing I
do it shut everything down, off line.  To be sure it is
all shut down, I Ctrl-Alt-Del, and end task on anything
that won't shut my computer down.

Recently defragment tool hangs at 10% no matter how long
it is run.  Can this be fixed?

I have a friend with a "Brand X" computer.  He knows very
little about it, not even the CPU speed.
Does anyone know of a utility that reveals that info that
he could download?  His OS is Windows 98, just like mine.

Does anyone know why Defrag in Win 98SE continues to
restart and never finishes?  It has been running for over
24 hours and gets nowhere.  I quit all other applications
before I started Defrag and there are no disc errors.
