Yesterday I  installed Windows 98 SE on a PC -
PII/196Mb/20GB. All went well until I installed the Rage
Pro graphics driver, when the system hung on every boot. I
used the workaround for this issue - disabled hardware

I have several older computers that I wish to completely
clean and remove old programs and essentially all
personal stuff. I am not opposed to reformatting teh hard
drive but really don't know how. Would like to take them

My system resources drop to 56% with an Earthlink
connection only. I took a look at my C:drive and noticed
that my win386.swp swap is 253mb is this my permanent swap
file? Can I delete or rename this file?

I recently updated my norton system works.  I had not done
a defrag for quite some time so I did so.  How long is a
reasonable time for it to finish?  Obviously more
fragmented more time but....hours and hours and hours!

Thanks Alan.  It Starts up much quicker, like it should.  
One more question.  During startup, at one point the
screen goes black (I assume DOS) and I now have five c

I hope someone out there can help. I am having trouble
with my computers performance. Very slow to boot , respond

Win98 will only boot into "safe mode". Shuts down OK but stays in "Safe
Mode" when re-booted.   Any suggestions?

When I run msconfig, under the autoexec.bat tab, there
are four commands.  Each of them is the same:  
      @C:\windows\COMMAND\scanreg.exe/opt

I had made a ghost copy or drive image of my hard drive on another hd a few
months back. Time has come for me to implement that drive as my main drive, for
the original went south. I had my OS, which was Win98se on it. The first time I

WhenI try to open a word document I get the hour glass.

running windows98.  When booting his machine up, it loads
to the c: prompt.  He says he has nothing in the "a" drive
