I bought a used W98 machine that was on a company network. On the "General"
tab in the System Properties box is the name & company of the original
owner. Where in the registry can I remove or change this info?

Since I replaced my MoBo, I'm experiencing an infuriating
pause, mid-operation, while the IDE HDD LED comes on for
several seconds before priority is returned to the process.

I've been reading all the posts I can find about this common problem
with Windows 98 and the Windows Explorer.
Just try and delete 200 files in a directory using Windows Explorer:
the system "pauses" for about 1 to 2 minutes, then it's ok.

Whenever I try to install a program I get three errors:
#1: C:\windows\temp\_ins0432._mp file appears to be
corrupt.  Reinstall file, and then try again.  (How do I
reinstall the file??  I don't have a Windows 98 cd. My

Whenever I boot my computer, an explorer window opens at c:\windows
How can I stop this? Using msconfig I have looked for an entry invoking explore
at startup and found none. I also looked in the registry 'run' entries and found nothing

this is an ongoing problem my computer keeps locking up
and when I do clt alt del it comes up and either tells me
that the wndupdater or the msgsrv32 is not responding,
this always leads to a shut down.  HELP

Some times during working on PC, an error
comes "Explorer.exe" as i click on oK some of My services
get stop.
To rectify it i hav to install a fresh copy of Win 98.
