I am running WIN98SE, when I try and shut down it does so
quite happily in a controlled manner but then reboots !!
any suggestion ?

Hi, i have had to run windows 98 setup over the win98 version already
installed on my machine - everything works fine device wise, display adapter

i just fresh installed windows se 98.it only has 16 bit color graphics. i
know my computer had 256 colors when i had windows 95 on it . how do i get  
the upgraded graphic colors on my system?

I have posted this to several Win98 newsgroups, because I am not sure which
one is the most appropriate.
I have an older computer on which Win98 is running.  This system basically
crashed after an attempt to re-install a printer that was giving me a

I tried to run a software that has msvcp60.dll in its own directory, and it
complains about msvcp60.dll linked to missing export
msvcrt.dll:__lc_collate_cp.
I checked that msvcrt.dll has version 5.00.

I just reinstalled Win98 because my computer’s been crashing frequently. (It
was originally a Win95 machine that I upgraded to Win98SE a few years ago. I
suspect the problem was spyware/virus. Spybot Search & Destroy found DSO
Exploit. I tried to clean it, but it kept reappearing ...

1) scanreg /fix hangs 5% out in checkin system.dat
2) winxp refuses to upgrade win98se due to registry fault
I have tried everything. Even exportet registry to a file,
and then recreated it from that file. Still faulty :-(

I can burn bootable CD's using Nero and the Win98 startup floppy.
Can you burn a bootable CD taking the contents of the Back Up files
Win98 allows you to store? So in the event serious data loss you can
boot up with that CD and restore the OS and files/settings/drivers

Running Win98/2000 on an older barely 486 puter.
It had an internal  Viking ISA 33.6 modem, replaced with a Best Data
ISA 56K.

I'm using win 98 (because is the ligther Windows version on which the .Net
framework can be use) , I need to control that people can't change the Date
and Time of the PC.. Is there a way to do it in Win 98 (via registry, script,

I had to struggle for hours for problems with 3 softwares installing some
dll files.
I eventually installed each software separately by clean installing win98
first each time, and finally figured out what the problem was.

I bought a new 80GB S-ATA disk to use with my P4PE onboard Promise
Fastrack S-ATA controller, but I'm not gettings things to work :-(
The Promise flashes a "no array defined" error messages at boot and
the drive is not visible from Win 98se (drivers installed) or FDISK
