After a reinstallation of Windows 98, I can't get the sound to work. I'm pretty sure it isn't a hardware specific issue; all the speakers seemed to be hooked up correctly. But my sound card simply doesn't show up in the Control Panel under the Add New Hardware section.

I recall reading somewhere that Windows 98 (original verson) cannot be installed on systems with large disk drive sizes. However, I cannot remember where I read this, nor can I find the reference again. I want to install Win98 on a dual boot PC along with XP Home.

I've got a Toshiba Libretto 100CT laptop (love those sub-notebooks :) ), it's in it's original state exept for the harddrive, i've put a 40GB replacement in. I haven't got a floppy or a CD-romdrive with it, so to install windows i put

This is in a friends machine. She had downloaded Mcafee from the ISP's site and had some things go wrong. (don't ask me I don't know) Based on what happened she decided to reinstall the operating system. After two attempt she called for help. She says she has lost the desktop.

Win 98 on a Dell XPS T500 The DVD ejects, tray won't remain in more than a few blinks of the light then pops open. Drivers reinstalled, system claims alls good, I hoping one of you have solved this before and can tell me where to begin. Thanks,

I have an old Dell Dimension, 400 mhz. It has Windows 98 installed, with all but a couple of available updates installed. At least, I hope they've installed correctly. :-) I have have a second parallel port card that came with my old Epson Scanner.

I have got a message up when starting the computer saying boot disk failure. Checking in the BIOS neither hard drives are shown. Even when I try to auto detect them...nothing happens. I have read about Boot record virus...is this a possibility??
