Why does it take so much time and also freguency to defragment my system? I heard that this this "problem" is systematic with windows 98. Granted I surf the web maybe a total of 4 hours a day

I'm a user of Win98 on a pentium 2. I recently downloaded an update package from microsoft. At the 1st attempt to install my PC froze(unusual) and I had to reboot. I then returned and downloaded and installed the update package

I'm upgrading to Word 2002 and I get an error message 25506. Microsoft Word 2002 requires updated system files. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ASYCIFLT.DLL is version 2.40.4275.1 and we require version 2.40.4277.1.

When I open setting and go to program folders I cannot open modems or any other icon in the folder. I get a message "Access to specific path or device is denied" does anyone know how to fix this?
