When I open the Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager, i see only the word "Computer" that is the Device Manger is total blank !!! I dont see any devices !!! What can I do to resolve this ?

I don't know how it happened, but Notepad.exe is gone from my system, do I really need it. I've changed .txt files to open with Wordpad. Don't want to have to reinstall Windows, any suggestions?

I have MS Office 97 including Excel, Word and Powerpoint running under Windows 98 on my PC which has ended its useful life. I also have MS Money 2000 or 2001. If I buy a new PC it will have Windows XP as operating system.
