I haven't run defrag for quite some time, maybe a year.
As far as I'm aware, I haven't made any changes to my
computer to stop defrag from running, nor do I delete
files without knowing what they are for etc.

In Windows 98, when I try to defrag or scandisk, it tells
me that the drive is locked by another application such as
a disk utility.  On the Microsoft support site, it only
shows a solution for windowsME and refers to a Norton

I have a Compaq Presario 1244 laptop with Windows 98. Also
on it is Office 97 Professional.  Since I bought the
