It seems that (on XP at least) when the firewall opens up for a UDP session, it opens it's local port to the entire world and not just for the destination IP. The port stays exposed for the duration of the UDP timeout.

I setup a windows VPN between XP and W3KR2. It connects correctly but can't authenticate. After checking the configuration and logs I saw that each time I try to authenticate, in the windows firewall log a DROP line for protocol 47 (GRE)

I have a LinkSys WPS54GU2 print server and am running Windows XP SP2 Firewall. When I disable the Windows Firewall, I'm able to print just fine to my two attached printers. But when I reenable the Windows Firewall, I'm not.

I've heard that if you have network with router than you do not need a firewall because hackers will only see your router and not your PCs. does it make sense?

The Tower PC (XP Pro SP2) running Windows Firewall can see and access the Laptop. The Laptop (XP Media Center with all updates) running Norton Firewall can not access the Tower PC.
