have the Windows ME activation code. I have the CD but no

I'm using a Norton utility program to diagnose and repair
problems on my PC. Unfortunately, I can't repair 2 items
associated with accessing the following files:
MSCOREE.DLL and LEARN32.DLL

I cannot get the system to boot up in Safe Mode (Window
ME) nor will it create a restore point. The Knowledge base
article that address the restore problem require safe mode
to fix it, so I am stuck.  Any ideas?

I'm trying to run ScanDisk on an ME machine.  I couldn't
defrag the drive because of errors...so a dialog tells me
I have to run ScanDisk first.
But...ScanDisk keeps restarting becuase it says there's

hidden files...what in the world are hidden files? Should
