I need advice as to whether a clean and efficient upgrade can be made from Millenium to XP Professional without reformatting the hard drive. Basically, can I buy the XP upgrade and install and then eliminate the ME version.

An FTP program that I'm trying to load refuses to do so but tells me that my computer restricts the loading of it (?!). However the same programme loads on everyone else's and my computer will willingly load other programmes.
