Word 2000 will not start up. Excel and Powerpoint do

I crash every time i try to run windows update.  it finds
the updates, but i can't install them.  I have a compaq
notebook (old with Cyrix processor), and i erased hard
drive and reinstalled windows ME (98 first then ME

I need to restore win ME on my computer, but I haven't a
restore CD. I have win ME product key, can I download the
os and insert my key?

My sister is getting a vmm32.vxd error.  The error is
saying that it is missing or damaged.  Computer was
working fine then it did this.  Any suggestions?
