I have a Gateway computer that is about 4 years old.  It was having numerous
problems.  I formatted the hard drive and zeroed the drive using the restore
disks from Gateway.  The computer works fine except that every time the
computer boots, it wants to do a thorough surface scan ...

There are a few items I would like to remove from here as well as in the
programs list.
Sometimes the shortcuts remove fine and am concerned about some of the items
that I want to remove in the programs list warning indicates that removing

On checking the above, under System Devices, I have two entries for
"Programmable Interrupt Controller".....the first one is working
properly.....the second one has a yellow circle with an exclamation mark and
it is not working properly.

Just had a look and would like to remove the above from my laptop.
Really not interested in gaming on this nor have the capablilty of watching
video either.
Any way of removing the above item.

My friend is running Win ME and cannot get Windows Update to even get
past checking for the latest software as it starts.
A quick look at the troubleshooting ref given seems to have more to do
with problems with installs actual updates.

Is it possible for me to fix this without re-formating my hard drive?  I am
unable to do just about everything as fault window is always on top and I
cannot get it to go away.  I use Windows ME, have plenty of Ram and hard

mmm. Well used a tweak UI program lately to clean up some of the items
showing on the start>programs list and seem to recall that I removed items
from the add/remove as well.
Now Sony has come out with a few items that they have updated and now cannot

On my D drive, I want to create several "smart" shortcuts that will always
be valid, regardless of whether this hard drive is drive D, drive E, or some
other drive letter. Similarly, I want to create shortcuts for CDs. Any
shortcut I create on a hard drive won't work when I burn ...

I am creating a batch file that needs to determine the Computer Name before
it runs. I have no problem with XP using "If %ComputerName% == xxxx. This
statement does not work with ME. I have tried numerous strings. Is there a
way to find the Computer Name? Thanks!

I am running Windows ME and have recently experienced a problem with my icons

I have been trying to do a thorough scandisk for some time now and
cannot get it to finish.  I don't get the usual restarts,
etc....it just gets to approximately the same point every time and
locks up.  Can't exit, cancel etc.

With the recent update of IE6 is it possible to uninstall all previous
versions of IE without jeopordizing the newer version?

after my last defrag the computer would no start !
something to do with a missing vxd file or files!
i was told to do a restore as my system is an OEM !
i had no restore points!
