I plug a usb flash drive and the computer finds the usb drivers for it.
There is the stop and eject icon on the system tray. However, it does not
show up in My Computer. Is there some drivers that I am missing? what do I
need to install to get usb drives to work?

I'm trying to sort out a friends old pc. They've  been running WinME on it.
Recently it has stopped working. They haven't put in new hardware or changed
anything. It just has stopped working. They've brought it round and when I
boot up from either the hard disk or the CD nothing is ...

I am looking at an external modem, made in Taiwan, with no apparent brand
name.  The computer is running Windows Me.  Device Manager is reporting a
problem with the modem.  
There are no disks or manuals with the modem.  If I install the Windows

 Have a Hewlett Packard Omnibook XE2.(second hand)... the desktop has a
large black border round and is also stuck in 16 bit colour mode. (no option
to change in settings)... does anybody Know how to fix please?

When I try to add a digital camera or a Flashcard Reader
through a USB port, the "Updating Hardware Database" box
comes up on the screen; however, nothing happens and the
progress counter remains at 0%.

I believe I will have to replace my battery soon as spasmodically on boot,
my clock boots to a nonsense date (ca 2010?). The box is 4 yo so a new
battery is not unreasonable.
Will replacing the battery reset the BIOS to default settings?

Immediately after i reboot the computer the application crashes
