Helping my father-in-law here, so be gentle.  Running ME, had an issue.
Inadvertenly reinstalled OS (don't ask).  Now USB cable modem not recognized.
No NIC.  How to setup the TCP/IP and get him back online?

My ME computer can ping ip addresses locally and on the internet.
My ME computer and my XP computer both use DHCP; my XP computer works fine.
My ME computer and my XP computer can transfer files back and forth.
My ME computer can not resolve host names on the Internet.

i configed home network wizard for internet connection
sharing so i can network my ps2 via my ethernet card.  my
pc is setup on a HPNA converted to USB.  which explains
the open ethernet card.  i've called my isp and they said

We have a wireless local LAN. Every once in  a while it stops working.
