I had a multi-boot machine - I installed Win2K on a seperate HD (which died)
now I have one drive with Windows ME on it. I don't want the "Please select
which version of windows you want to boot into screen" to appear any more
because the default option is win2k and I like to ...

The mystery has been solved. The HDD is fried. There is a simple diagnostic
test which would have told me this on 8/14 if I had known of it's existence.
The good news is I learned a lot about software that may be useful in the
future.

This comes after rebooting. Also comes up when starting any browsers & the

installing VPN adapter via control panel/software/windows setup does not do
the trick. Installing windowsme from the setup CD doesn't help either.
