Enconterd an error message COOD1187. hat to do?

I am using Windows 98 OS and Win Media Player 7.1. I tried to play an SVCD (.mpg) file but it returns the following error code 80040154. Do i ned some sort of SVCD codec to play the file or does anyone know what may be ythe problem. Regards: rossdonovan@yahoo.com

The movie is a .AVI. I don't know if I have a problem playing Mpegs. I'm not very computer literate. I downloaded "GSPOT to my computer and the movie still would not play. I'm lost...help. Thanks for the info.
