i cant record througt the media

ran through gspot   nonavifile type unknow
typed dvdupgrd.exe/detect into run no files foun
problem must be a codec but has anyone any ideas where to find it
Also tried running avi through powerdvd with no results

im getting this error messag
Cannot play back the audio stream no hardware is available or the harware is not responding

i have windows media player 9 and windows xp every time i use a url file i get error  cood116d .help
